Sekai Project Anime Boston 2016 Announcements

After their big Sakura-Con announcements, Sekai Project was back the following day at Anime Boston with two more.

unnamed (1)

Title: A Clockwork Ley-Line: The Borderline of Dusk
Studio: Blossom Unisonshift
Release Date: 2016
Trailer / Site / VNDB

“In a mysterious school where day and night have split into two separate worlds, a mismatched trio unites under the school’s secret division known as the “Bureau for the Investigation of Special Affairs.” Together they set out to resolve supernatural and magic-related incidents that are plaguing the school.”

Thoughts: Another big commercial Japanese license for Sekai Project! This highly rated series from Unisonshift: Blossom is a trilogy of magical mystery games that are sure to be a hit with Western audiences. The focus is on story over sex so I’m expecting a Steam release, but hoping for a Denpasoft release, too.

It probably shouldn’t take too long for them to release it since SP has bought out the fan translators working on the project. I’m not sure how I feel about this practice, but I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes in terms of compensation and so on, so I can’t really comment on it. I’d like to hear (confidentially) from any fan translators who have had this experience, though.

Title: Just Deserts
Developer: Vifth Floor
Release Date: 2016
Trailer / Site

“Just Deserts is an sci-fi action dating sim where you play as a soldier who must protect a city from mysterious alien attack, while at the same time you will also be seeking to capture the heart of your dream girl(s)! Game features include: five unique heroines, fully voiced characters, multiple language support (English, Japanese, Indonesian), seven different endings, mini battles with aliens, a detailed management system, hundreds of usable items, and more!”

Thoughts: It seems that the game was originally due to be Kickstarted (they even had a Prefundia page up), but after signing a deal with SP they no longer need those funds.

This is a dating sim rather than a visual novel, and it’s great to see more of them coming to Steam. I just hope it won’t be too grindy, which is a problem many dating sims suffer from. Also the English on Sekai Project’s page for the game is kind of dodgy, so I hope that’s not a reflection on the in-game text.

What do you think about these two announcements? Sekai Project sure is taking on a lot of work these days, and my wallet is going to suffer for it!
